Albaugh’s Frosty Acres raises purebred Shorthorn cattle. All our animals are synthetic hormone and antibiotic free. Our cattle are unique in that we can date their lineage back to the 1820s via the American Shorthorn Association. The Shorthorn, because of its ability to efficiently convert forage and its proven marbling and early finishing characteristics, is the ideal breed for the production of choice, gourmet, grass-fed beef. We believe you will find our grassfed beef to be of the finest and highest quality you will find anywhere. All of our cattle are raised on native grass and forage, breath clean, fresh mountain air, and drink from crystal clear streams and springs from the surrounding Cascade Mountain Range. Our beef is aged three weeks, cut, vacuum sealed, then flash-frozen before being shipped to you. We invite you to browse our website and learn more about us, our heritage and history, and about the cattle we believe will provide you with the finest eating experience anywhere. We sell USDA approved whole, halves and quarter beefs. Call, e-mail, or visit our website for more information. Albaugh's Frosty Acres, Andy Albaugh, PO Box

Coal Canyon Road, Oroville CA 95965. (530) 533-1676. Chileno Valley Natural Beef is a family owned business in West Marin, California. We have been selling grass-finished natural beef for three years on a ranch that has been in the family since 1862. We take pride in offering beef that has never seen the inside of a feedlot or kill room. The only grain they have received is from the grasses that have gone to seed in the pasture. These animals live their entire life on the gentle rolling hills and pastures of this 600-acre ranch. This lean Angus beef is free of antibiotics and growth hormones. No pesticides are used on the pastures. Our beef is offered by the split-quarter, half, or whole. A split quarter is a combination of both the front and rear quarters. For those wishing less than a quarter, you have the option of making up your own group, or letting us assist you. A typical quarter is about 100 pounds, costs approximately $270.00 and includes everything from lean ground sirloin to prime rib and porterhouse steaks. Since there are many choices that can be made in dividing up the animal, each customer decides which of the cuts he wishes and how it is to be packaged. We can also arrange for delivery if pick-up is a problem. We offer our meat at near cost in order to introduce the public to our product. We believe that we offer great value to consumers of our meat. Purchases can be made or information obtained by calling the ranch, by e-mail, by accessing our web page, or by writing the ranch. 1912 Timmons Road, Grenada CA 96038. Drakes Bay Family Farm - Lunny Ranch. The Lunny Family has produced high quality farm products on the Lunny Ranch in Marin County for most of the twentieth century, and they continue to do so into the twenty-first. Today, the Lunnys raise Marin County’s only certified organic beef herd and Marin County’s only certified Grass-Fed beef herd on Marin County’s first and largest certified organic pastures for livestock production. By managing this herd as a “closed” herd, the Lunnys have eliminated the potential of importing diseases with purchased cattle from out of the area. The ranch is situated in the heart of the Point Reyes National Seashore, with the Pacific Ocean bordering one side of the ranch and Drake’s Estero bordering the opposite side. This moist, marine environment provides for excellent pasture quality. The winter supplementary feed provided to their herd is certified organic grass haylage produced by the Lunnys on their ranch. Ultrasound has become an important component of their herd management. This technology provides “inside” information that is invaluable to the grass finisher. Rib eye area, intramuscular fat %, back fat thickness, a tenderness score and a stress score are all recorded for each and every calf. These traits are all highly heritable (except the stress score), making more rapid genetic gain possible in their closed herd. Most importantly, over the years this information has been giving the Lunnys the information needed to project the likelihood that the individual animal will finish well on grass and provide a wonderful eating experience. Beef is all USDA inspected and vacuum packaged. Quarters and halves are also available by pre-orders. Drakes Bay Family Farms - Lunny Ranch, Joe

Holding Ranch in Little Shasta Valley offers beef that is wholly raised on grass, never receiving any supplements, antibiotics, corn, or other feeds that are unnatural to ruminant animals. Hunter's family had a dairy in upstate New York, but Hunter and Anne started raising Angus cattle in 1994 in the LaMorinda hills and moved to Montague in June of 2008 so they could expand their operations. We raise our beef using rotational grazing practices that utilize natural methods to optimize the health of the native grasslands. Our animals are treated humanely, using techniques developed by leading animal behavior experts. (In fact, the Holdings founded and ran a non-profit educational organization called Deer Hill Ranch in Lafayette for 12 years; it provided Humane Education Programs for thousands of children each year.) Our beef is processed and USDA inspected at a small, family-owned plant. The beef is dry-aged for approximately 30 days, then cut, wrapped and frozen. Our portable freezer facility transports the beef directly to East Bay Farmer's Markets (Walnut Creek, Moraga, Orinda, Pleasanton, Montclair and San Mateo). Customers consistently comment that Holding Ranch beef has excellent flavor and is very lean. Depending on the season, we also sell pastured poultry which has been fed 100% organically. We grow Cornish Cross hens for our customers who want a meatier bird and also grow Red Bro hens which are similar to the French Label Rouge hens. These hens grow more slowly but the meat is succulent! Our Dorper sheep are hair sheep and do not produce as much lanolin. Many people believe that their meat is milder tasting than meat from wool sheep. Once we moved to Montague, we were able to expand our sheep flock and produce lamb for Bay Area Markets. Seasonally, whole lambs can also be ordered and delivered to the Bay Area. We are also raising a few Berkshire Hogs because the meat, according to Florence Fabricant of The New York Times, is "darker, more heavily marbled with fat, juicier and richer-tasting than most pork, and perfect for grilling." Because feeding them 100% organically is so expensive, we will only do a few each year. Turkeys (free range and fed 100% organically) can be special ordered for 2009 on a limited basis. BULK BEEF and LAMB ORDERS: Many of our customers are ordering in bulk as an economical and convenient way to provide their families with nutritious, clean food. Fall and early winter are the best times for Bulk Orders. Beef Quarters, Halves and Whole can be ordered and delivered to a central location in Walnut Creek. Whole Lambs can be ordered and delivered as well. We truly enjoy sharing the food we produce for our family with other people. You can reach us by e-mail or phone. 997-1072. E-mail: office@holdingranch.com. Humboldt Grassfed Beef produces cattle on the North coast of California. The long feed growing season of this area provides us with the unique opportunity to raise high quality grassfed beef and supply our markets with a fresh product on a weekly basis all year round. Our cattle are selected for traits such as temperament, confirmation, and disease immunity. We raise them using a strict quality assurance program without antibiotics, synthetic hormones, or other feed additives commonly used in the commercial cattle feeding industry. HGB sells carcass beef to retail outlets. In this way, we believe we are helping the meat department become a truly full-scale meat market. Carcasses are dry aged 14–21 days. Skilled butchers break each carcass in-house instead of being mechanically deboned at the large industrial slaughterhouses. Ground beef comes from a single source and is ground daily thus insuring food safety and freshness. Our meat markets can be confident that HGB is safe and wholesome. We are in complete control of each individual animal and maintain the highest standards our customers have come to expect and trust. Humboldt Grassfed Beef, Leland Mora, PO Box

We began raising chickens in 2007 and are slowly developing our business to provide our local community with fresh, healthy, delicious chickens (broilers), turkeys and eggs. We are currently raising three different meat bird breeds which have been carefully selected for slow growth and foraging ability, which adds to the nutritional value and flavor of the meat. Our egg layers are a mix of heritage and production breeds and our limited number of turkeys are all heritage breeds. All of our birds are fed certified organic grains, kept on pasture once feathered and receive daily treats such as heirloom vegetables straight from our organically managed garden. Although we have never used herbicides, pesticides, or other chemicals on our land, we are not a certified organic farm. Our goals are to live responsibly on the land by providing habitat for native animals and plants (30% of our farm is dedicated to wildlife habitat) and by building the soils by careful livestock management to provide wholesome, healthy foods for ourselves and our local community. Orange Spring Ranch offers 100% grass fed and grass finished beef without antibiotics and hormones. Our herd is about 10 strong, give or take depending on the year, and the bull runs with the cows and calves. They rotate themselves from pasture to pasture on our 160-acre ranch located in the Sierra Foothills in Mariposa County, not far from Yosemite National Park. The animals for sale are born and raised on the ranch and do not come into contact with other animals. This makes for a very low stress environment for the herd. Our beef is very flavorful, lean, and rich in omega-3 fatty acids. And you avoid all the food scares associated with commercial beef that surface from time to time. Orders are taken in advance for spring harvesting mostly. The meat can be picked up in Turlock near Modesto, an easy drive from the Bay Area. Please call with any questions. You are also encouraged to visit the ranch. Orange Spring Ranch, Christel Belrichard, 8093 Hunters Valley Road, Mariposa CA 95338. (209) 376-2382. Sierra Farms is located in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of Northern California. Our lambs live an idyllic life, on the oak savannah grasslands of our ranch. We use stewardship principals including rotational grazing, perennial grass species renewal, and animal adaptation selection in a non-irrigated, principally forage-based regimen. Through this program we are able to develop a lamb niche market where biological conservation can be promoted to lamb eaters who prefer a product raised in a more positive ecological balance. Sheep on the land .. a perfect combination for sustainable agriculture! We usually have lambs available from March through December. All lambs are processed by a USDA–inspected processor, which assures humane treatment and high quality standards. Sales are either whole (36-40lbs) or half-lamb (18-20 lbs), cut, vacuum sealed and boxed with a net weight label. Price currently is $7.00/lb. on the net weight. Whole lambs for pit or spit are also available. Please call or e-mail us for current lamb prices and delivery schedule and locations. Thanks! KNOW YOUR FOOD...KNOW YOUR FARMER. TLC Ranch (or “Tastes Like Chicken” Ranch) is a small family farm near Watsonville, CA raising pastured pigs, broiler chickens and laying hens. We rent 10 acres of certified organic pasture and feed 100% certified organic feed to all of our animals. Other than brooding, our animals spend no time indoors. We rotate around the 10 acres using electrified fencing to maintain good vegetative cover, spread the manure out evenly, and reduce disease and parasites. We give no antibiotics to our chickens ever and only give antibiotics to our pigs if it is a life-threatening situation. We mostly use homeopathic treatments and lots of bacteria-rich raw milk to keep the animals healthy. We do not kill wild predators—instead we work on our management to prevent predation. We sell our chickens whole and butcher on farm every two weeks. Our pigs we sell either by the whole/half or as individual cuts. We currently take the pigs to Creston Valley Meats, a USDA licensed abattoir in Paso Robles. We do not ship our meat—customers either come out to the farm or we can arrange drop offs in the local region. We are also at the Downtown Santa Cruz Farmers Market on Wednesdays from 2:30-6:30pm. Hall Road, Watsonville CA 95076. (209) 505-4558. The T.O. Cattle Company sells “Morris Grassfed Beef,” 100-percent grass-finished beef as split halves. (A split half will yield approximately 90 pounds of boned steaks, roasts, and ground beef.) Our cattle are born and raised in the coastal ranges of California. They enjoy a diet of fresh grass, forbs, and legumes, clean water, and, as Julie says, better views than most of us do! We use neither synthetic hormones or fed antibiotics: our animals grow only as fast as their genetics and the range will allow. Their “range,” of course, serves also as watersheds and habitat for other communities. We manage our animals so that they enhance the diversity of life on the range, as well as the quality of the water that falls on the range and flows to the towns. We manage this web of relationships as an integral whole: damaging the health of any member of the "whole" community damages the rest. Our desire is to produce health with all we do. Only when this is done are we satisfied that Morris Grassfed Beef is all it can be—the best there is for all of us. Our beef is harvested when both the animals and the grass are ready: usually, June. We time it thus so that the meat is packed with all the nutrients Jo describes. The beef is processed in a USDA inspected plant. Then it is dry-aged for 14 days, cut into individual cuts, wrapped in butcher paper, and frozen. T.O. Cattle Company, Joe and Julie Morris,

Juan Batista CA 95045. (831) 623-2933. Walker Creek Ranch offers 100% grassfed locker lambs available from June through October. These are sold as whole carcasses for $3.25 per pound of hanging weight, or $3.50 for half. This includes cutting and packaging to your specifications. Orders usually take about three weeks and can be picked up at the locker in Orland. Shipping can be arranged and is extra. Average dressed weight runs between 40 – 60 pounds. Lamb sausage is also available on request. Orders are taken by phone, fax or e-mail. USDA inspected. The key to the success of our lambs is that they are naturally adapted to a grazing environment and our climate. We use two breeds, the St. Croix and the White Dorper. Both evolved in hot climates and were selected under grazing conditions for many generations. Animals that are suited to their environment are less likely to suffer stress or develop health problems. Neither breed requires shearing and both are calm and docile in nature. Lambs are raised on pastures that include strawberry clover, Ladino clover, ryegrasses, tonic plantain, chicory and dandelion in a complex mix of forages. Both animals and pastures thrive on a system of frequent moves which give lambs fresh pasture every day or so and allows the forage to regenerate. Lambs are provided with free choice salt/mineral mix only, with no hormones or antibiotics. We think you'll be impressed with the mild flavor and tenderness of our lamb and we hope you'll tell your friends. Walker Creek Ranch, Paul and Kathy Lewis, 6352
